The Importance Of The Male Prostate Exam

Yes, I know. You feel terrible just  hearing about the prostate exam. In fact, there’s nothing more terrifying among men than the mention of it. Most of us try to avoid it because of that fear and it’s true that most of us, in our thirties or forties do not feel very concerned about it. Yet it is one of the most important procedures that you can have done and every man should have at least one by the time he is fifty.

prostate examsThere’s no better way to diagnose a prostate cancer in its early stage as when you perform a prostate exam. Consider it that way. No women get to that age without a mammogram. No men should reach that birthday without having made such exam.

Perform your Prostate Exam to avoid Cancer

It’s really fearful but the facts are there: a prostate cancer can kill you in a matter of months if not treated in its early stage and the best way to detect it early is to perform a prostate exam. At the start, the cancer forms when normal prostate gland cells mutate. They become cancerous. These small clumps of cells remain within the normal prostate gland and continue to build up.

Eventually they will expand to the surrounding tissue and form into a tumor. As the cancer evolves, the tumor cells continue to expand and possibly reach other organs and possibly into the blood stream then into the lymph node system. Most commonly, the cells will leave and then attach onto other systems and cause the damage there. If not detected on time, it will too late. The cancer will have gained too much space.

Detection of prostate cancer is simple if you have an exam, but it can be extremely illusive and difficult to detect otherwise. Take that into account, the probability to develop a prostate cancer in men of seventy is as high as 80%. Of all risk factor for prostate cancer, age is the most important, though not the only one. Other factors include diet, race and genetics. Of course, some of them can have their influence limited by improving the diet and the lifestyle, but early detection is the real key to beating this disease.

There are several ways that you can help to prevent prostate cancer, the most important of which is to be sure that your diet has sufficient at least and excessive at best amounts of vitamin A, vitamin E, and beta-carotene. There also is several studies linking the number of ejaculations to the frequency of cancer, but these as of this writing are not founded.

So remember, prostate cancer is very aggressive as it has a high probability to propagate to the entire body. The only and very effective way to avoid it is with a prostate exam. Consider it as a rule. No men over 30 should not consider having one.
