Screening for prostate cancer: recommendations and rationale.

Expert panels are cautious about recommending universal screening for prostate cancer. Because of their increased risks, African Americans and men with a family history of prostate cancer should begin screening at age 40. Minimizing the Risks Insufficient evidence exists over whether the benefits of screening for prostate cancer outweigh the risks and costs involved.

At the moment, routine screening for prostate cancer is not carried out in any country, because none of the available tests are accurate enough. Several medical societies have published recommendations for prostate cancer screening.
